WA:Second man sought over shooting
PERTH, Dec 5 AAP - Police are hunting a second man over a shooting death in Perth's
northern suburbs over the weekend.
No details have been given, but a police statement issued on Monday afternoon said
a second man was being sought.
The statement follows an earlier appeal by West Australian police for information on
Hayden Shane Joseph, 23. He is wanted for questioning over the death of Jeremia Iskander,
21, who was shot in the driveway of his Wanneroo home on Friday evening.
There have been reports that the shooting may have been over a debt.
WA Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan told reporters on Monday morning that Mr Joseph
could be "armed and dangerous". Members of the public were warned not to approach him.
"All we want is information. We don't want the public to intercept the man, we just
want information on where he might be," the police commissioner said.
"You have to treat this person with caution."
Police believe Mr Joseph may have fled or be trying to flee WA. They are conducting
border patrols, and staff at the domestic and international airports have been put on
alert.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

FED:Coalition to boost trade: Truss
BRISBANE, Aug 3 AAP - A coalition government will restore funding to exporters and
appoint an ambassador for trade reform and specialist trade representatives for Australia's
manufacturing and service industries, Nationals leader Warren Truss says.
Speaking at an Australian Institute of Export breakfast in Brisbane, Mr Truss said
trade has been a low priority for the Labor government.
He said that Labor in 2007 promised to revitalise the Export Market Development Grants
scheme (EMDG), but had reduced payments to exporters.
An Abbott government would increase the EMDG cap to $200 million from July 1, 2011,
restoring a $50 million shortfall caused by Labor government mismanagement, he said.
Mr Truss said exporters will then be able to anticipate that claims for the promotion
of exports under the EMDG would be paid in full.
"Furthermore, in government the coalition will examine the merits of removing the cap
altogether, provided payments could be kept in reasonable bounds," Mr Truss said
Mr Truss said the coalition would appoint an ambassador for trade reform to promote
global trade reform and re-establish the Trade Advisory Council abolished by Labor.
The coalition would also continue funding for the position of trade representative
for agricultural industries and establish two new positions covering the manufacturing
and service industries.
Mr Truss said the coalition's highest trade priority will be the Doha round of negotiations
towards freer world trade, but it would vigorously pursue free trade agreements with China,
Japan, Malaysia, the Gulf Co-operation Council, South Korea and Indonesia.

NSW: Holidaymakers warned to avoid bushfire areas this summer
SYDNEY, Dec 20 AAP - NSW Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan has urged holidaymakers
to avoid remote national parks and forests on days of total fire bans.
With this summer predicted to be a particularly bad season for bushfires, families
are being asked to keep up-to-date on weather forecasts to prevent getting caught up in
a bushfire.
"Developing a Bush Fire Survival Plan as part of your holiday preparations will ensure
you and your family know what to do in the event of bush fire," Mr Whan said in a statement
on Sunday.
"Be aware of the Fire Danger Rating for the area you are holidaying in or travelling
through. On days of total fire ban, reconsider plans to travel into remote bushland areas
such as national parks and forests."
NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said holidaymakers should
bring a battery-operated radio with them to keep up-to-date on on bush fire warnings in
their area.
"Ensure camp fires are fully extinguished before going to bed or leaving the area and
remember that open fires are not permitted on total fire ban days," Mr Fitzsimmons said.

Fed: Damon Gameau finds it hard to let go of Balibo
By Alyssa Braithwaite, National Entertainment Writer
SYDNEY, Aug 11 AAP - Damon Gameau signed up for an acting job on Robert Connolly's
film Balibo, but what he got was a life-changing experience.
Portraying Greg Shackleton, one of six Australian journalists murdered by invading
Indonesian forces in East Timor in 1975, affected Gameau so deeply he is still struggling
to move on 12 months after the filming wrapped.
"For me personally, I found it hard to let go - a year on and I realise it's all still
there," Gameau told AAP.
"You do have to treat that carefully sometimes, because it can carry over into your life.
"It's not really discussed about in acting. It's seen as a bit wanky.
"You're pretending to do things that are quite extreme, and if you really are committed
to it, it's going to take a toll on you."
The political thriller recreates the events surrounding the deaths of the men known
as the Balibo Five and the execution of fellow Australian journalist Roger East, who went
to East Timor to investigate their disappearance.
It also sheds light on atrocities suffered by the East Timorese people.
Gameau, 33, said he knew nothing about the Balibo incident before taking on the film.
When he and co-stars Anthony LaPaglia, Gyton Grantley, Nathan Phillips, Mark Leonard
Winter and Thomas Wright travelled to East Timor for filming they came to understand how
important the story was.
"We realised the gravity of this story and stopped treating it like a job, and it became
like a whole other thing," he said.
"All of us have said at various times it was life-changing and I think it's true.
"The whole thing just doesn't feel like we made a film, it always felt like something larger."
Gameau found the resilience of the East Timorese people inspirational, and knew that
when filming wrapped he couldn't just walk away and return to his own comfortable life.
He and Grantley plan to return to the country later this year to show the film dubbed
in Tetum, the language of East Timor, and say thanks to the people.
"We're going to go guerilla-style, maybe get two motorbikes, get a backpack and then
drive around the country and take a projector and show it on the walls of the villages
and make a little documentary," Gameau explained.
He is also planning a big event in Melbourne's Federation Square to celebrate the 10th
anniversary of East Timor's independence later this month.
Balibo will be released on Thursday, after a special screening for politicians to be
held at Parliament House in Canberra on Wednesday.
Gameau said he isn't even thinking about what film or TV show he might do next. But
when he does, it will be something he is just as passionate about.
"I feel like this chapter's not quite finished yet," he said.
"I couldn't just turn my back and go, thank you, film's out now.
"I still love acting, of course, but I'm going to make sure I do things that in some
way inspire or make a difference."

NSW: Multicultural "role model" cried as she was arrested: court
SYDNEY, April 1 AAP - A former NSW Young Australian of the Year sobbed at her arrest
for supplying cocaine, saying "I am supposed to be a role model", a Sydney court has been
told.
Giving evidence in the NSW District Court, Inspector Steven Patton contradicted Iktimal
Hage-Ali's testimony that she did not use those words.
The 24-year-old is suing the state of NSW, claiming she was wrongfully arrested and
detained in Sydney on November 6, 2006.
The arrest occurred eight days before Ms Hage-Ali, a member of former prime minister
John Howard's Muslim Community Reference Group, was named NSW Young Australian of the
Year, a title she later relinquished.
She was released without charge, hours after her arrest, having told police she was
a cocaine user but had never supplied the drug.
Ms Hage-Ali, who gave evidence last December, was not present in court on Wednesday
for her case, which resumed earlier this week.
Under questioning from Peter Boder QC, for the state of NSW, Insp Patton said he had
spoken to Ms Hage-Ali at the police station after her arrest.
"She was crying, she also said, `I'm supposed to be a role model, I'm a finalist in
the NSW Young Australian of the Year'," he said.
"As she was saying this she was sobbing, and said, `I spoke at your multicultural day,
how embarrassing, you must have all been laughing'."
Ms Hage-Ali has denied making those statements.
Insp Patton said that before her arrest he believed police had evidence that showed
she was a "very low level" supplier.
"Was she a person who ought to have been arrested?" Mr Boder asked.
Insp Patton replied, "Yes", but added that after her interview he had found her to
be credible when she said she had not supplied cocaine and only bought the drug for her
own use.
The hearing is continuing before Judge Michael Elkaim.

U.S. Concrete Announces Third Quarter Results.
HOUSTON, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ --
U.S. Concrete, Inc. (Nasdaq: RMIX) today reported results for the three months and nine months ended September 30, 2001.
Revenues in the third quarter of 2001 were $138.6 million compared to revenues of $116.6 million for the third quarter of 2000. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, before the special charge discussed below was $17.8 million for the third quarter of 2001, compared to EBITDA of $18.2 million in last year's third quarter. Net income in the third quarter of 2001 was $5.3 million before the special charge, or $0.21 per diluted share, compared to net income of $6.7 million, or $0.31 per diluted share in the third quarter of 2000. Net income before the special charge plus after-tax goodwill amortization, or cash earnings per share (EPS), was $0.25 per share for the third quarter of 2001, compared to last year's third quarter cash EPS of $0.35 per share.
As previously reported, third quarter results were negatively affected by the continued slowdown in the U.S. economy and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, which accelerated the decline in construction activity, along with the costs associated with the special charge relating to the settlement of litigation with Del Webb Corporation ("Del Webb") described below.
Revenues for the nine months ended September 30, 2001 were $364.8 million compared to revenues of $291 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2000. EBITDA, before the special charges described below, was $42.6 million for the first nine months of 2001, compared to EBITDA of $43.0 million for the corresponding nine-month period in 2000. Net income for the first nine months of 2001 was $10.0 million before special charges, or $0.42 per diluted share, compared to net income of $14.9 million, or $0.70 per diluted share, for the first nine months of 2000. Cash EPS was $0.54 per share for the first nine months of 2001, compared to last year's cash EPS of $0.80 per share in the first nine months of 2000.
