Qld: Gold coast hotel evacuated after fire
BRISBANE, Aug 29 AAP - A Gold Coast hotel was evacuated after a fire broke out on one
of its levels last night.
Police say 55 guests were evacuated from the 27-storey International Beach Resort at
Surfers Paradise after the fire broke out around 7.20pm (AEST).
An Emergency Management Queensland spokeswoman said the fire started in an electrical
conduit cupboard on a lower floor of the building and smoke spread to most floors.
No-one was injured during the incident which caused only minimal damage to the building.
Guests were allowed to return to their rooms to collect their valuables but the building
was left unoccupied for the night.
Fire investigators will return to the scene today.
