Floods NSW (SYDNEY)

Hundreds of residents are leaving the New South Wales town of Eugowra after an evacuation
warning was issued by the State Emergency Service.

Families were told last night to find higher ground as soon as possible as a result
of the major flood level predicted for Mandagery Creek.

Eugowra town bridge has been closed for overnight .. with access between the eastern
and western parts of Eugowra being cut.



Floods Vic (MELBOURNE)

Houses in the Harrow township in Victoria's southwest face being isolated as the Glenelg
River inches towards its peak.

The SES says the Glenelg River is expected to peak about 6am (AEDT) this morning at
Harrow .. which could isolate 10 properties.

Meanwhile .. towns in the state's northeast also remain on flood alert as the Ovens River rises.

The Ovens River has already peaked at Myrtleford .. but residents remain on flood alert
.. and the river is likely to peak at Wangaratta as late as 7am (AEDT) this morning.



WikiLeaks (CANBERRA)

The federal government is bracing for more potentially embarrassing WikiLeaks cables
.. as protesters prepare to rally again in support of its detained Australian founder
JULIAN ASSANGE.

A day after revealing Labor powerbroker MARK ARBIB'S intimate links with US diplomats
.. the government's media minders will be scanning newspapers this morning for more possibly
damaging stories.

A rally in support of Mr ASSANGE is planned in Brisbane today .. after more than 250
people gathered in the Queensland capital last night in his support.

The 39-year-old Australian is detained in London .. awaiting extradition to Sweden
to face rape charges.



Assange Rally (BRISBANE)

Britain-based Australian journalist JOHN PILGER says he considers the defence of WikiLeaks
founder JULIAN ASSANGE one of the most important issues of his lifetime.

He's sent a message to 250 protesters in central Brisbane saying that Mr ASSANGE'S
arrest on sex charges is a stunt to silence him.

ASSANGE .. whose leaked documents on the internet have embarrassed governments and
organisations across the globe .. is in British custody .. awaiting extradition to Sweden.

Former Australian Democrats senator and now Greens member ANDREW BARTLETT says Mr ASSANGE
deserves fair treatment and Wikileaks is about more than JULIAN ASSANGE.



Walkleys (MELBOURNE)

Veteran television political reporter LAURIE OAKES has branded Prime Minister JULIA
GILLARD'S comments on WikiLeaks as ridiculous .. as he accepted the Golden Walkley.

The Nine Network Canberra press gallery journalist took out the highest honour in journalism
last night for his coverage of the Labor leaks during the federal election campaign.

He also won the Walkley for television reporting.

OAKES criticised Ms GILLARD and Attorney-General ROBERT MCCLELLAND for their comments
about WikiLeaks' release of US diplomatic cables.



Rudd (CANBERRA)

Foreign Minister KEVIN RUDD has spoken with Indonesian President SUSILO BAMBANG YUDHOYONO
about SCHAPELLE CORBY and Australians facing the death sentence in Indonesia.

Mr RUDD .. who is in Bali for the Bali Democracy Forum .. has met a number of leaders
.. including East Timorese Prime Minister XANANA GUSMAO and his Iranian .. Bangladeshi
and Maldivian counterparts.

Last month .. Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD told the Indonesian president the Australian
government supports a clemency plea by CORBY and a transfer to an Australian jail.



UK Protest (LONDON)

Police with riot shields are holding off angry student protesters marching to London's
Parliament Square .. as MPs debate a controversial plan to triple university tuition fees
in England.

Thousands of students are holding demonstrations and sit-ins throughout the country
.. heaping pressure on the government to reverse course.

Students have marched through central London .. banging drums, waving placards and
chanting "education is not for sale" .. as weeks of nationwide protests reach a crescendo.



Med Smoking (WASHINGTON)

A new report has found even a bit of social smoking .. or inhaling someone else's second-hand
smoke .. could be enough to block your arteries and trigger a heart attack.

The US Surgeon-General's report says there's no doubt tobacco smoke begins poisoning
immediately .. as more than seven thousand chemicals in each puff rapidly spread through
the body to cause cellular damage in nearly every organ.



Oprah (SYDNEY)

OPRAH WINFREY fever is gripping Melbourne .. as the TV chat show queen makes the first
public appearance of her Australian tour.

Fans are gathering in Federation Square ahead of OPRAH'S arrival at Federation Square
from 2.30pm (AEDT) after her trip yesterday to Uluru in central Australia.

Cricket England (MELBOURNE)

England coach ANDY FLOWER will be keen to see how his pace bowlers perform in the three-day
tour game against Victoria starting today at the MCG.

England hold a one-nil lead in the five-match Ashes series after their triumph by an
innings in this week's second Test in Adelaide.

However the tourists face a selection dilemma with frontline seamer STUART BROAD sidelined
for the rest of the tour with a stomach-muscle strain.

CHRIS TREMLETT, TIM BRESNAN and AJMAL SHAHZAD .. who boast nine Tests between them
.. are all in line to replace BROAD for next week's third Test in Perth.



Shield NSW (SYDNEY)

NSW will be hoping to break a crucial partnership between CALLUM FERGUSON and DAN CHRISTIAN
as they go in search of outright points on the final day of the Sheffield clash against
South Australia at the SCG.

FERGUSON and CHRISTIAN have put on 76 for the fifth wicket with the Redbacks to resume
later today at four for 178.

With three sessions to play .. the Redbacks need another 95 runs to make NSW bat again.



Golf Aust (Coolum, Qld)

Tournament favourites GEOFF OGILVY .. ADAM SCOTT and defending champion ROBERT ALLENBY
have some ground to make up in the second round of the Australian PGA Championship at
Coolum later today.

The trio all turned in disappointing opening rounds .. SCOTT shooting a one-over-73
with ALLENBY and OGILVY returning two-under-par rounds of 70.
