Google in Talks with China Regulators for Mapping Service

BEIJING, Apr 01, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), a world-acclaimed online search service provider, said yesterday that it was in contact with the Chinese government for a continuous provision of online mapping service in China.

Google is trying to communicate with the local government on how to offer online mapping service in the country, according to the US-based company, in a response to the widespread market hearsay that it has yet to file for a supply of online mapping service to the local regualtors.

Google has not submitted an application to the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping for an offering of online mapping service yet, said Kou Jingwei, director for the bureau, on March 30. The bureau said previously that it would take administrative actions such as a suspension of service operation toward mapping service prodivers on July 1, 2011 provided that they failed to hand in an application by March 31.
