City Council blasts Payzant on funding

Like a schoolchild sent to the principal's office, Thomas Payzant, superintendent of the Boston Public Schools, was subjected to a stern lecture and rebuke on Monday afternoon by three city councilors who gave the superintendent poor grades in following their directions.
During a public hearing of the council's Committee on Education and School Matters, councilors at Large Peggy Davis-Mullen, Stephen Murphy, and Francis "Mickey" Roache criticized Payzant for not heeding the councilors' previous instructions to commit more resources to alternative schools and truant officers.
