FED:Matt Favier to run AIS

CANBERRA, Dec 16 AAP - Federal Sports Minister Mark Arbib has welcomed the appointment
of Matthew Favier as the new director of the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

"Matthew has gained extensive experience in high-performance sport in Australia and
internationally as an athlete, coach and manager over the past 20 years," Senator Arbib
said in a statement.

Favier is a former 800-metre runner and was Australia's junior champion over the distance.

He is also a former scholarship holder at the institute.

"I look forward to working with Matthew and the team at the AIS as they lead high-performance
sport into the future, especially as we enter an Olympic and Paralympic year in 2012,"

Senator Arbib said.
