Fed: Gorton says his govt more focused on nuclear power

Former Prime Minister Sir JOHN GORTON says his government was more interested in developing
nuclear power than building weapons of mass destruction.

Cabinet documents for 1968 show Sir JOHN's government flirted with the nuclear option in
the leadup to a crucial United Nations debate on a nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

The documents were released today by the National Archives of Australia under the 30-year
